Anekonda is a historic locality and suburb situated about 4 km from Davanagere city, on the Davanagere‑Jagalur road in Karnataka. The name Anekonda is believed to originate from a legend where the elephants of a king’s army were tied up here when Betur was the capital, which in Kannada literally relates to “place where elephants were tied”. The site has historical significance as an active settlement during the 11th and 12th centuries AD, with evidence of various dynasties including the Gangas, Chalukyas, Uchchangi Pandyas, and Hoysalas having ruled this region.
